This year, Kingpins introduced its new Made in Japan area, featuring exhibitors from Japan and highlighting the quality, craftsmanship and rich history behind their products. Themes explored how cultural reinterpretation and a deep respect for tradition and authenticity contribute to creating prized and valuable garments. For A/W 26/27, the show welcomed nearly 1,200 individuals from nearly 550 companies and over 40 countries.
Sculpted Forms
Winterproof denim with elevated 3D forms and abstract quilting patterns.
Fibre and yarn: look for GOTS-certified and recycled cotton, FSC-certified viscose, Tencel lyocell, GRS-certified polyester and recycled elastane.
Colour and finish: play with different 3D structures and Contemporary Quilting, opting for low-impact wadding for warmth.
Construction and weight: explore double cloth techniques in geometric patterns and different scales. Weights range from 6 to 13oz.
Warm Touch
Sensorial textures give a soft and tactile handle, exploring yarn and finishing methods.
Fibre and yarn: use RWS and ZQ-certified wool, modal, GRS-certified polyester, and GOTS-certified and recycled cotton.
Colour and finish: mottled and snowy greys and blues bring a wintry patina to denim bases. Brushed and flocked finishes achieve effects for a suede-like and inviting softness.
Construction and weight: look at corduroy for a high volume option and simple twill constructions as a base for finishing techniques, with weights ranging from 8-13oz.
Etched Textures
Tap into icy and cracked Frozen Surfaces for contrasting, winter depth.
Fibre and yarn: focus on cotton, mixing with a low percentage of elastane if necessary. Look at GOTS-certified, regenerative and recycled options.
Colour and finish: use various shades of blue and white to achieve cracked, thawed and crystallised effects. Play with overprinting and tie-dyeing methods to create depth.
Construction and weight: create eroded-like finishes through jacquards. Weights range from 9-13oz.
